Haiku: Mardi Gras

Intro: When I visited Spain I attended a festive Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras

Bright feathery boas.
Colours swirling everywhere.
Beaded,sparkly masks.

Loud booming music,
Everyone dancing in town
Having a great time.

Haiku: Final Destination

Intro: This poem is about my final destination and how I'm getting ready to go back home.

Final Destination

On my final trip.
Enjoying it while I can.
Seeing everything.

As I am dashing
From one place to another
My camera ready.

Taking it all in.
I'm not missing anything.
For it's my last trip

Free Verse: Culture-istic Cuisine

Intro: This poem is about all the foods I've tasted in some of my destinations.

Culture-istic Cuisine

Travelling around the world sure brings up an appetite.
With each destination comes a new dish to taste.

I take a HUGE bite out of a pizza right from the oven.
With sweet, juicy pineapples
And cheese with stretching miles from the crust.
My mouth watering just remembering it.
In little Italy.

I spread butter on a fresh croissant
Steam rising.
Butter melting.
Oh so heavenly!
In beautiful France.

I unwrap a chocolate from its shiny foil.
Inhaling the aroma.
I take a bite and I find
Smooth chocolate in the centre.
Mmmmmmm!
In sweet Switzerland.

Shutter Bug

When I'm travelling,
My camera's always handy.
Making memories.

In one quick, bright flash,
Capturing every moment.
Never missing one!

Intro: This poem portrays all the sights and activities that I experienced when visiting Rome.

When in Rome

When in Rome
I visited the Leaning Tower of Piza.
Leaning over so far,
It's hard to believe it didn't fall!

When in Rome
I dropped by the Roman Colosseum.
Ancient and torn apart
Lays an intriguing story.

When in Rome
I experienced many wonderful things.
Wishing I could stay longer
But remembering all those great times

When in Rome.

Before turning in for the night, I'd like to say thank you to Letters for the World of Lovers for the idea of "picniking" pictures with the poems. A very creative way to give an extra sparkle to anyones blog! Thanks again! <3

Free Verse: Home Sweet Home

Intro: When travelling I have seen people living in variety of places. Some poor some rich. But no matter what you live in if you can say "Home Sweet Home" when you walk through the door then that's all that matters.

Home Sweet Home

Home is where you feel safe.
Home is where you feel loved.
Home is where you want to go when nothing goes right.

It doesn't matter if your home is a tent
In a refugee camp.
If it makes you feel safe
That's all that matters.

It doesn't matter if your home is a shack
With holes in the roof.
If it makes you feel loved
That's all that matters.

It doesn't matter if your home is a mansion
With a fountain made of gold.
If that's where you want to go when times are bad
That's all that matters.

Plain and simple,
No strings attached.
Home is home.
Home Sweet Home!

Quatrain: Landmarks Marked on my Map

Intro: Sorry for the delay on the latest poll poem. But here it is! The rhyming scheme is ABCB The winners are:
  • Big Ben
  • Largest Single Rock
  • Eiffel Tower
Landmarks Marked on my Map

My map is covered with red circles,
Circling landmarks I'll be visiting,
Taking pictures of and making memories.
The first landmark is coming...

Big Ben
Right in the heart of bustling London.
Standing tall and strong.
With every hour
The city is shaken with a loud GONG!!

Largest Single Rock
In the barren landscape of Central Australia
It sits alone.
With no company what-so-ever.
But all that doesn't matter because it's still well known.

Eiffel Tower
The "eye- catcher" in the "City of Love".
Brightly illuminated against the night sky.
Bars criss-cross at the base
And meet as one up high.

Haiku: Diving Deeper

Intro: This poem is about my experience of diving in the Great Barrier Reef. Simply breath-taking!

Diving Deeper

I sit on the edge
Waiting to fall into the
Great Barrier Reef

Colours swirl 'round me
Fish swarm with shimmering scales
The cool waves splash me

I dive right under
Mouth open in complete awe
Absolute beauty

Creatures hide behind
Vibrant coral, like the rainbow
Simply breath-taking.

Quatrain: Climbing to New Heights

Intro: This poem is about tackling Mount. Everest. But hidden in it is a moral which is: No matter how big a challenge may seem never give up. The rhyming scheme is ABCB

Climbing to New Heights

I stand at the bottom, looking up.
Got my gear and I'm ready to go!
Up that mountain
In the freezing snow.

Climbing higher and higher
Going one foot at a time.
Beneath my frozen feet the snow crunches
To my numb ears it sounds like a chime.

Conquering Man's greatest fear
I stand at the top, looking down.
Amazed at what I did
A smile grows on my face, definitely not a frown!

As I descend down I think:
"I never thought I could overcome this!"
Even with all the obstacles
I still achieved bliss.

Diamante: Come by Train, Come by Plane

Shakespearean Sonnet: Postcards Home

Intro: This was definitely the most difficult of all my poems to write. But not taking too long to write it. This poem is about writing postcards to my parents while I'm away travelling. With the Eiffel Tower on the front and black ink on the back, it makes its journey from France to my house back home. The rhyming scheme of this poem is ABCB.

Postcards Home

I'm leaving home for a new adventure,
Waiting at the train stop, going by train.
Saying goodbye to my loving parents
Promising to write when boarding the plane.

Arriving at my first destination
I'm taking in all the wonderful sights.
Writing my first postcard to my parents
Missing them as the days turn into nights.

The Eiffel Tower plastered on the front.
Waiting for the ink to dry, since it's damp.
Telling my family about my trip.
Done! Into the envelope with a stamp.

Hoping they will get my special postcard
Since staying far away is really hard!
